Another Question and another Answer.
This one from a young adult.
Question:
How do Satan and his demons work against us? Do they have any power over us?
Answer:
Well I'm not an expert on demonology or anything but I know a little so I will do my best to answer.
Basically, the first thing you have to remember is that satan has no power over you if you are "marked for Christ" (i.e. confirmed, baptized, in a state of grace, etc) unless you choose to let him have power over you. If you are a Catholic/Christian then you belong to Christ, not Satan and you should not waste too much time worrying about stuff like this. Christians who make a big deal out of demons and even stuff like Halloween really end up giving more credit to the stupid devil than he deserves.
That being said, I have had some scary experiences with evil at different times in my past. When this happens, simply making the sign of the cross and saying "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, amen" is enough to protect you. That has always been the case with me. The sign of the cross, among other things, is a prayer of protection.
However, if you allow satan to influence you then he can. Sometimes this can be done on purpose (devil worshippers, ouiji boards, witchcraft, fortune telling, etc). Other times it can happen by accident. Sometimes this can happen, for example, if we dull our faculties of reason and judgement with alcohol or drugs. When we do this it is like leaving the front door open when we know there is a burglar about.
Anyway, it isn't something I worry about but it is something I am aware of. Remember the Bible says that the devil is prowling the earth like a roaring lion looking for souls to devour. Whenever I have been confronted with evil I always make the sign of the cross and ask Michael the Archangel to protect me. Remember, he is the one that threw satan and the other fallen angels out of heaven. He will watch your back for you. Just ask.
Until Next Time...
Pete
